First of all, a big apology to my readers – yes I know I’ve not been updating for a while (by the blogger’s yardstick, at least once a week is the minimum, methinks). I’ve been working on a number of offline projects (I’m typing this in my office at 2am!) recently, which explains my reluctant absence from this site. Nevertheless, I’m making an effort to update more frequent (did I say I’m typing this in my office at 2am?!).
Okay! enough about me… here it is :
14th Nov 08, Day 1 of 3
The 2nd speaker of the day – Stephen Pierce.
Something he said entered my awareness instantly :
1. “I’m extraordinary because every day, when I wake up, I choose to be extraordinary!”.
Those words say one thing about the big man – that he has learned to live consciously and direct his thoughts to the things that enable him to continuing growing. And I don’t mean his tummy!
Stephen Pierce has an inspirational rags-to-riches story to tell – as a matter of fact, he spent a large portion of his presentation time sharing about the having the right mindset, which I do agree very much with. We have seen time and again, people who went against all odds to break the heavy shackles that were supposed to hold them down. They are all living testaments to the fact that where there’s a will, there’s a way.
2. Mavis Cox – If a 92 year old granny can make money on the web…
what other creative excuse do you have for yourself not to begin making money on the web?
Thought-provoking huh? So often, we hear people saying they’re too young, too old, too poor, too busy (yea I know I said that earlier), too adfksjfkljdfv…. and the list goes on.
I like the way Stephen Covey put it across in his famous “7 Habits..” – too often we try to rationalise, and we tell ourselves rational lies to justify for our actions (or inactions).

3. Awareness
If you know about NLP, you’ll know that everyone has mental filters. We tend to generalize, delete or distortion information that we take in from our senses. Simply put, very often, we tend to believe only what we want to believe or what we’re paying attention to.
So if you’re focusing on how bad the economy is, you tend to delete the fact that there are still a lot of people making decent profits in the less common niches.
Here’s the awareness test that Stephen used during his presentation (can’t remember if this was the exact one :
How many passes does the team in white make?
4. What’s Your Definition of Success?
“Success isn’t about being better than him or her, but it’s about you being better than yesterday.”
I agree with Stephen again. Let me explain more…
Many people wire themselves for feeling bad because of the way they’ve defined what success means to them. By this I don’t mean that these people set unrealistic goals but rather, they forget the hackneyed phrase “Success is a journey, not a destination.” We don’t spend our lives chasing for that particular end point. We spend our lives living the moments that leads us to the end point.
If you were to think about it, what’s most memorable about making a million dollars isn’t the moment of making the millionth dollar – but all the moments you went through, all the challenges, the good times, the bad times, the growth experiences, the people you meet.
So, as long as you keep improving, keep learning and growing, you can continue to feel good about yourself. Don’t get disheartened if you’ve had a bad day, or if things didn’t go the way you want them to. Just smile and keep moving forward.
5. Instead of doubting yourself, doubt your own limits
When you keep thinking of your own limits, did it cross your mind that those limits are imaginary? Instead of spending your time thinking about how limited your resources are, why not spend time doubting your limits?
All these reminds me of Orison Swett Marden’s words :
“Our mental attitude has everything to do with our ultimate success or failure. Holding the right thought, with the constant, vigorous affirmation of our ability to do the thing we are trying to do, to become the man or the woman we are trying to become, is the secret of all success.” – Orison Swett Marden
If you think you spend too much time worrying and doubting yourself, it’ll be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Go google for Orison Swett Marden and read the literature by the great man – it’ll do you a lot of good.
